QUOTATION OF THE WEEK
To be nobody but yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night
and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.
—E. E. Cummings (1894-1962) English poet
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
We are all unique individuals. No one else has dreams exactly like ours. No one else has thoughts exactly like ours. We have the ability for greatness each in our own way. Yet as E. E. Cummings says, we live "in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else." Do not let it happen. Explore your values. Look at your vision for yourself. It is yours and no one else's. Do not settle for less than you can be. Do seek wise counsel but let it be counsel that supports rather than dictates. Remove negative words such as "failure" and "I can't" from your inner dictionary and do not let them enter back in through someone else's dictionary. Look for at least one positive thing — something you can learn from — in each experience on the road to pursuing your dreams. Make adjustments if necessary, but never, never quit! Are these just words? Words yes, but not "just" words. These are words that can put into motion your inner strength not only to pursue but to fulfill your dreams.
Many abandoned dreams litter the side of the road to success, and many of them have gotten there by listening to the negative pronouncements of others. If we listen to them long enough, we start thinking they are our words and we start believing them. People will try to shatter your dreams. People will also support you. You have control over which one you take to heart. Who are you going to listen to?
