QUOTATION OF THE WEEK
"We are so caught up in our destination that we forget to
appreciate the journey, especially the goodness of the people we
meet on the way. Appreciation is a wonderful feeling, don't
overlook it."
--Anonymous
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
"Thank you!" "I really appreciated what you did." These are simple phrases but ones that are so often under used. We encounter many people in our lives who do a kindness for us, and how often we forget to thank them. "What a nice thing to do." we may say to ourselves, but do we express it to the person?
I was staying at a hotel some time back and did not feel like going out to dinner, so I called room service to have a meal delivered. The person I called sounded a little harried. It took a while for the dinner to be delivered. The person who delivered it said they were very short handed that evening and everyone was doing double duty. Well, the meal was absolutely delicious. A little while after finishing my meal the thought struck me to call room service and tell them what a good meal it was. When I called, I got the same person who now sounded even more harried. I told her I called earlier for room service and before I could say anything more I could feel her reaction. I am certain she was saying to herself something like, "Oh no! What's wrong now?" When I told her that I wanted to compliment the chef for an excellent meal, she responded with joyful disbelief. The compliment obviously lifted her spirits in a major way. This came from just a simple expression of appreciation.
So take some time to thank those who have made your journey better, or lighter, or happier. In fact, take time once a week to send out thank you notes or letters or make phone calls with no other motive than to say thanks. The appreciation you show will pay dividends to those to whom they are given and also to you. As the quotation states: "Appreciation is a wonderful feeling, don't overlook it."
So my appreciation to all of you for subscribing to "Thoughts . . ." and for the dear notes that many of you send.
Blessings and Love,
