QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble
art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the
elimination of nonessentials"
--Lin Yutang (1895-1976) Chinese author, philolotist
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
Our society has turned into one of constantly doing things, and usually trying to do them all at once. We feel that we must accomplish everything right now. Prioritize . . . don't have time for that! Eliminate something . . . are you kidding? Everything is important, or so we tell ourselves. So we do everything, or in reality we try to do everything and when we fail we feel guilty and stressed.
How much better to develop the art of "leaving things undone." Is that chore on your list really that important? What would happen if it were not done? Ask yourself what you value in your day? Do you value things or people? Have you taken care of yourself? You and only you have control over what you will get done and what you will leave undone. The art is in the selection. Identify your values. What are the things that really matter? How can you best use your time? Then leave undone the things that really do not matter and focus your attention on those that do. Your stress level will go down and you will see real accomplishment instead of the feeling of always being overwhelmed.
Take little steps. Soon you will be able to see what is really important and you will become a master in the art of "leaving things undone."
