QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Me lift thee and thee life me, and we'll both ascend together."
--John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) American poet

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

As we climb the ladder of life and explore our dreams and goals, we are sometimes very secretive of those dreams and goals. Perhaps this is out of embarrassment or the fear that someone will laugh at our dreams. Perhaps it is out of a feeling that if we share them, then we really have to start working on them, because now "someone knows." Whatever the reason, we often do not share them. We justify our secretiveness by saying that our dreams "probably have no chance of ever coming true," and we wouldn't want to expose our "foolishness" to others. What we do not realize is that by not sharing our dreams, they usually remain just that . . . unfilled dreams.

Sharing does some magical things. It takes the dream out of the vague dream state and heads it toward reality. It can bring some substance and structure to the dream. We also have made a form of commitment by sharing it. Most important, it brings support and encouragement. Sharing creates a situation where someone may be able to "lift you" and move you along in fulfilling your dreams, and in sharing you may lift them also. You may get some ideas that you would never have thought of on your own.

So share your dreams--share them carefully, with those who will be supportive--but do share them, and you will be moving down the road toward the realization of your dreams.
