QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music."
--George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans) 1819-1880, English novelist

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS Music enters into and comes out of our cultures and their events and celebrations. We hear music at weddings, funerals, holidays, birthdays, ceremonies, gatherings, and religious events and services. It can inspire us, depress us, make us happy, make us sad, calm us, energize us, raise our spirits to the heights, take us to the dark places, proclaim our love, and express our grief. It is a mile marker of generations with names like bebop, swing, rock 'n' roll, disco, rap, new age, and on and on. It sets the themes for great movies and musicals. And it can heal, something that has been know for ages by wise souls but is now being substantiated in the scientific community.

Can you imagine a world without music? Even those with hearing impairment can "hear" the beat of music. Even though Beethoven was totally deaf during the last eight years of his life, he kept composing great music.

Keep music in your life. Sing in the shower, hum a bright tune when you are down, be inspired and be healed by the sound of music. Use music to lift you and lighten your burdens. Use music to calm you and bring you peace. Keep "Singing in the Rain" as you travel this path of life. And you too may find that "Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music."
