QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The meaning of giving is worth more than the gift."
--Pierre Corneille (1606-1684) French Dramatist
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
All of us have given gifts: birthdays, holidays, weddings, anniversaries, and for no particular reason at all. What makes the gift a gift. Is it the object itself? Think about a special gift you have received. The joyous feeling you had. Is this because of the gift? If so, would you not have the same feeling if you had given yourself the gift? The feeling comes not from the object but from the thought. The object can be lost or destroyed in a wink, but the thought is forever.
The next time you give a gift, question your motives in doing so. Is it because your "expected" to give; because you want something in return; because someone gave something to you so you "just have to" give something back, or is it being given as an unconditional expression of love, caring, joy--something that comes from the heart with no expectation of anything in return. Given as such, these gifts form a universal circle of giving whose positive energy contributes to the lives of all.
This is my gift to you today.
