QUOTATION OF THE WEEK
Knowledge is the most precious treasure of all things because it
can never be given away nor stolen nor consumed.
--Sanskrit proverb
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
In school they require us to take various subjects and some of them make us wonder, "Why do I have to take this? I will never use this stuff." Those of you who have children have no doubt been approached with this questioning attitude. What is not understood is that knowledge alone is a treasure. When we gain skills, insights, and information, we have added something to our lives that no one can ever take away. True, we may learn things that we might not directly use, but then again...you never know. Just the fact that we have used our mind to gain knowledge gives us study and analytical skills that will help us with all learning, whatever the subject. We may never be a great artist or musician, but learning about art and music gives us an appreciation about those subjects that will forever have an impact on us. We may not aspire to be a scientist or mathematician, but learning about math and science will broaden our horizons about those subjects, giving us knowledge and skills that will enable us better to understand the world around us. And what about the written and spoken word? Without an understanding of reading, writing and language skills, how can we hope to communicate and be understood. So when encountered with the task of learning, take the attitude that you are being given a precious gift. Do not run from it. Do not complain. Instead treat it with kindness...embrace it. It is the "most precious treasure" that one can receive.
