QUOTATION OF THE WEEK

Vitality shows not only in the ability to persist, but in the ability to start over.
--F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) Novelist

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

Persistence in achieving our goals is crucial to success. Winston Churchill gave a commencement address and the address consisted of his standing up and saying to the graduates, "Never, never, never quit!" and then he sat. This simple wisdom is at the core of success. But there is something more. Our paths may be strewn with roadblocks, setbacks and yes, even a total destruction of the progress we have made so far. When this happens, it is easy to become wrapped up in the loss and feel that we just do not have the energy to keep going. Our "vitality" is wiped out and we quit, but our dream has not really died. The original passion we had is there, although it may be hidden under sweat, tears, and setbacks. If the goal was one that deserved our time and energy in the first place, then it deserves our starting over at whatever cost. On the other hand, if it was a mistake ever to begin, then this is a time for reflection on our motives and methods and perhaps letting go and moving on. We should make that decision in the light of day and not while we are bemoaning our losses. Step back and really look at why you set the goal. What were the reasons and desired outcomes? Be totally honest with yourself. When this is done, you will then know if your passion was directed down the right road or not, and if so, you can pick up the pieces and continue with your dream. In fact you will continue with a stronger resolve and with increased knowledge. You will succeed!
