QUOTATION OF THE WEEK
No horse gets anywhere until he is harnessed. No steam or gas
ever drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever
turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever
grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.
--Harry Emerson Fosdick (1878-1969) Minister, author
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
Focused, dedicated, disciplined--these three things sum up the lives of so many of those who have made a difference in their world. It matters not whether it was a great leader known to multitudes, the unassuming teacher who gave children the key to their own greatness, or the many others who in so many ways made a difference. Their common thread was a focus on where the road was going, a dedication to the task at hand, and the discipline to keep moving in spite of discouragements, setbacks, and frustrations.
We spend so much of our time wishing we had more time. We hurry from one task to another, sometimes juggling many tasks and doing none of them well. We sometimes feel that we are not in control of our lives, that we are powerless. But the truth is that we are in control and we are the only ones who have the power to focus with dedication and discipline on the true passions of our lives, the things that really make a difference.
What are your values? What are your passions? Listen to your inner voice and identify the truly important things in your life, then move on with focus, dedication, and discipline. Do not let anyone or anything deter you from your chosen path. Never, never quit! Do this and your world will change.
